HD Tach v3.0.4.0

HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

HD Tach Benchmark Results

Benchmark Results: The difference between the 2TB WD Caviar Black hard drive and the 2TB WD Caviar Green hard drive is as obvious as night and day. The Caviar Green is clearly aimed at energy-conscious customers that are willing to sacrifice some performance for power savings, lower temperatures and less noise. The Caviar Black is aimed more at the high-end consumer that is running a multi-media PC or gaming system that wants more performance and doesn’t worry about heat and noise as much. The WD Caviar Black was 31.8 MB/s or ~37% faster in the read test and 27.6 MB/s or ~37% faster as well in the write test. It was also quicker in the random access test as a seek time of 11.9ms is clearly better than 17.3ms! When it comes to performance the choice is obvious!
