Vapor Phaze Case Mod Leaves Us Impressed at CES 2012

By

I’ve seen thousands of case mods around the world since I started Legit Reviews back in 2002 and the one that I saw yesterday was one of the more impressive that I have ever seen. The Zotac booth in the South Hall had a slick looking two phase liquid immersion PC that stopped me dead in my tracks. The system was running a Zotac Z68ITX-A-E motherboard with an Intel Core i7-2600K and a Zotac GeForce GTX 560 Ti video card. The twist to this system is that the CPU and GPU coolers were removed and the entire system placed into a non-conductive liquid bath. The liquid boils at a very low temperature, which gives an awesome visual effect. We’ve seen systems in mineral oil plenty of times, but this isn’t mineral oil!

Without a CPU HSF the processor was running at around 70C on all the cores at a full load. Not a temperature to brag about, but you don’t need a low temperature when your PC looking like this. Take a look at the video to see what this PC mod looks like in motion.

Vapor Phaze is a system that uses two phase liquid immersion. The cooler on the CPU and video card is a custom design that incorporates a special material which enhances boiling of the fluid. Two phase cooling is where you take a liquid and turn it into a gas to dissipate the heat, the gas is then re-condensed into a liquid.
