Vague Answers Muddy the Waters on Nintendo Switch Virtual Console

By

During E3 last week Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime sat down with a bunch of gaming publications to answer questions. It seems that each of the publications that interviewed Fils-Aime asked some of the same questions about the Nintendo Switch and you might have expected the Nintendo exec to give the same answers to all, but alas he didn’t.

In fact he seemingly contradicted himself with different answers to different publications according to BGR. The big question on the minds of many games is when the Switch online experience lands next year for $20 per year, will the Switch get a virtual console. Nintendo gamers have certainly become used to this with both the Wii and Wii U offering a virtual console to allow gamers to play classic Nintendo titles.

Fils-Aime told Polygon that the Switch online service was delayed into 2018 because there were things Nintendo wanted to do before it launched. Then he went on to all out the “things” as Netflix, voice chat or online play, and virtual console. Then talking with Kotaku, Fils-Aime said, “Weve not used the term virtual console.”

In an interview with Mashable, Fils-Aime said, “Certainly the virtual console aspect is going to be part of what we do in terms of making some legacy content available with the Nintendo Switch Online.” These interviews did nothing to give Switch gamers an idea of what Nintendo will do. Perhaps that is what Fils-Aime wanted to do, muddy the waters and keep people guessing. If so, he did a great job.
