Top Google Searches in 2014

Google has released its annual round-up of the year’s top global searches and the results might be shocking to some. What were the most searched topics in 2014?

According to Google the most serached term in 2014 was Robin Williams followed up by the World Cup and the spreading Ebola virus that has gotten worldwide attention in recent months. Other than the top three topics on the list of global trending searches you have the still missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that went viral, the game Flappy Bird, drag queen Conchita Wurst, ISIS, Frozen and the Olympic games in Sochi. Keep in mind that Google measures popularity on a year-over-year basis to filter out consistently common terms and obscene results are not included. The top Google searches originating from the United States only was very similar, containing eight of the same terms. Ferguson (Where a white police officer shot and killed a black robbery suspect named Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.) and Ukraine replaced the global lists instead of Conchita Wurst and Sochi Olympics.

What do these searches say about us? The world loved American actor and comedian Robin Williams and football/US soccer!
