Sony PS5 Rumored for Launch in Second Half of 2018

A new rumor is is going around from a reputable source that claims by the middle of next year we will have a new PlayStation game console on the market for gamers to lust over. The new console is the Sony PS5. The launch of that console would be a bit earlier than tradition since new iterations of the console typically come six years after the launch of the previous generation console.

If accurate, the launch of the PS5 would come less than five years after the PS4 launched. The assumption is that the PS5 will land with a faster processor, better GPU, more memory, and greater storage than the current console. There are no specific hardware rumors at this time.

The prediction comes from Damian Thong, an analyst at Macquarie Capital Securities who has been accurate with predictions of the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in the past reports Forbes. Sony isn’t expected to make any massive architecture changes to the new console in part to keep backwards compatibility with PS4 games.

Faster hardware and more storage will simply allow the PS5 to run games more smoothly and to support higher resolutions when gaming. Some think that the PS5 might take advantage of the Vega GPU architecture and a coming next generatiosn AMD CPU architecture.
