Sony E3 2015

Sony is one of the big three when it comes to the console wars, so there is always a lot of pressure to deliver. And Sony certainly did just that both at their press conference and on the show floor.

Sony began their press conference by showing some gameplay footage of a game that had seemed dead for a long time, The Last Guardian. In this game the player takes control of a boy who must communicate with his companion, a huge creature named Trico, in order to solve puzzles. Made by the same team behind the classic games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian certainly has a ton of hype surrounding it. The game is set to release sometime in 2016.

Another huge game that came out of Sonys press conference was their new IP, Horizon: Zero Dawn. This game shows a post apocalyptic world in which machines have mostly taken over and have even merged with animal life. The player takes control of one of the few remaining humans attempting to survive. The game is also set to release sometime next year.

Uncharted-4-Box

One other game that was revealed at the press conference, and one of the biggest games of the entire show was Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End. They showed off a trailer and some gameplay which showed it as possibly the biggest and most ambitious Uncharted game yet. The game is slated to release March of 2016.

Some other games they showed off were Activisions Call of Duty: Black Ops III and revealed the highly anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront, however one game that caught my attention was No Mans Sky. This game seems to be pushing the PS4 to its limits by including an entire universe in the game therefore having a ridiculous amount of content.

Sony PrototypeSony did not only reveal new games at their conference, they also revealed their VR hardware: Project Morpheus. This VR hardware like many of its competitors on the horizon does indeed use a visor to allow the player to be fully immersed in whatever game they are playing.

However what makes this one different from all the other VR hardware slated for the upcoming years is that Sony has revealed that Morpheus can not only be used for single player experiences, but multiplayer experiences as well, such as RIGS: Mechanized Combat League. This is certainly a huge step in the field of Virtual Reality as Sony is the first company to announce anything like this.

On the show floor, Sony had a huge selection of games to try out including the new Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter V, Destiny: The Taken King, and even some indie games like the upcoming Skullgirls: Second Encore. One of the biggest hits at the Sony Booth, other than Project Morpheus which was so popular an appointment was needed to demo it, was Kill Strain. Kill Strain appears to be a mashup of many genres including MOBAS, RTS games, and even shooters.

Overall Sony had an absolutely spectacular E3 showing off a slew of new games both triple A titles and others and shocking everyone with VR technology capable of multiplayer. The PS4 is shaping up to be the must own console of this generation.
