Sonos Playbase is an Under the TV Home Theater and Audio Solution

Sonos is mostly known for their wireless whole home audio products that allow you to play your favorite tunes in any room of the home. The company does have a home theater product designed to be mounted on the wall with your TV. However, Sonos says that 70% of all TVs in homes are on TV stands rather than being mounted to the wall. The company finally has an audio solution for this majority called the Playbase.

Playbase is a thin and powerful speaker that is designed to be placed under the TV. Playbase sells for $699 and comes in black or white. The global launch for the audio solution is April 4. Playbase measures 58mm high and has ten drivers inside.

It is made with no visible seams and clean lines with a very flat top surface. Over 43,000 holes create an acoustically transparent grill. The exterior is a glass-filled polycarbonate to reduce vibration and hold the TV’s weight for years to come.

Setup requires only power and an optical cable from the TV. Playbase can connect wirelessly to other Sonos speakers in the home to be used as a wireless room speaker for music when the TV isn’t in use. The ten drivers each have a dedicated amp and includes six mid-range, three tweeters, and one wooer. Users can also choose a dialog enhancement mode and night mode to improve the dialog and reduce bass for loud action scenes.
