If you are one of the smartphone users who hates to put a case on your device preferring to use it au naturale, you should check out the new smartphone Samsung has that launches August 11 on AT&T. The device is the Galaxy S8 Active and it is designed to be very rugged with no need for a case. AT&T will offer the smartphone in Meteor Gray or Titanium Gold.

Those not on AT&T will be happy to hear that the Galaxy S8 Active will only be AT&T exclusive for a “limited time.” Exactly how long this exclusive period is we don’t know. The big feature of the S8 Active is the durable design with military-grade materials used in construction, the smartphone is shatter, dust, and water resistant with a metal frame and bumper. The backside of the device has a rugged texture for better grip.

Samsung integrates the Bixby assistant into the device and the smartphone feature an Activity Zone. The Activity Zone lets you activate Bixby with a swipe or button press so you can access things like the stopwatch, barometer, compass, or flashlight quickly when outdoors. The shatter resistant screen is a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED unit with a 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Power is from a big 4,000 mah battery.

That should mean long run time with a charge. The camera is a 12MP F1.7 unit on the back and an 8MP F1.7 unit on the front with autofocus and more. Samsung Knox security protects your device from unauthorized users. AT&T will offer the S8 Active on AT&T Next for $28.34 for 30 months for users on eligible service.

“Our new Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is designed with tested durability and strength to address the needs of consumers who need a more rugged device for their lifestyle,” said Tim Baxter, President and CEO, Samsung Electronics North America. “We are thrilled to introduce the fifth-generation Galaxy Active, which offers the best of Galaxy features in a tougher package.”
