Rumors of FrozenCPU Going Out of Business Are False – Maybe

frozencpu

A former employee of FrozenCPU (website) went onto the forums of and posted on Overclock.net that the popular PC enthusiast retailer was out of business. The user posting under the forum name of WebsterXC claimed that the owner of FrozenCPU was battling an addition problem and that events this week have left the company nonoperational. He goes on to say that the warehouse was physically damaged and that all of the staff was fired! That is a pretty wild story and you can read part  of it below.

Many people understand that I was a FrozenCPU employee for almost 3 years. I loved the time I spent there, it was not only a fun and enriching experience, but built my work ethic to allow me to become a professional individual through high school. I established unparalleled relationships with my coworkers, many of whom I can consider family. The office staff however, was not the same. Currently I am not employed by, and do not represent FrozenCPU in any way. The owner has struggled a long battle with addiction, and events that unfolded earlier last week have rendered the company unoperational and shut down for good. Physical damage of the warehouse has occurred as well as the dismissal of all support and warehouse staff; the company has no plans of re-establishing themselves.

My initiatives are harmless; I want to protect the community that fostered my love for computers and technology from sending payments or spending money on products that will not come. Some users have already caught on to this fact after their UPS Overnights were not delivered today. Since all staff has been fired, nobody is updating the website to inform the loyal community about the closure, nor has anyone taken steps to shut the website down. I have no sources and no images, and my credibility of this testimony rests on my previous employment with the company (why I nested this thread in “rumors and unconfirmed articles”).

Rumor on the streets is that some craziness happened and someone drove a truck through the warehouse. Our calls to FrozenCPU went straight to a recording that said to that the store was closed and that we should call back during regular business hours. We were calling during regular business hours, so it does appear that something is indeed going on. We also found online where Swiftech’s CEO, Gabe Rouchon, said that he too was unable to reach anyone at FrozenCPU and then there was the Facebook post below from Primochill. Primochill spoke about the staffing changes at FrozenCPU on their Facebook page and even said they got in touch with Mark Friga, the owner of FrozenCPU.

Both Primochill and Kyle Bennett over at HardOCP have been able to talk with Mark Friga and were told that FrozenCPU is NOT going out of business. Kyle reported that Mark is running a skeleton crew while getting back up to 100%. The odd thing is that FrozenCPU hasn’t made any announcements on their website, Facebook page or Twitter account to reassure customers that they are still a functioning business. Something odd is certainly going on over at FrozenCPU and we look forward to what Mark Friga has to say about the situation. The FrozenCPU Facebook page hasn’t been updated since Black Friday (November 2014) and this situation has gone viral, so it might be time to do an update. This could be a case of an ex-employee with a vendetta, a simple misunderstanding or the truth.

I sent in a small order on 2-10-15 and here it is the17th and it has not even shipped yet. I think I have been screwed. I’m going to cancel the order and go to my bank today and have them reverse the charge. There is no way that the web site should still be up and taking orders and credit cards. I’m also going to get hold of the state of New York and complain about this. Maybe they will make them take the site down. I am really pissed off since I used to order from them all the time and there was never a problem. I had to talk my customer into not cancelling the computer I was building for him due to this delay and the even longer time it’s going to take me to order from somewhere else now.

    • Sharon

We are in the same boat, by trying to follow-up on my order, which was charged to my credit card is how I became aware that something wasn’t right. It’s too bad really, we have done a lot of business with them over the years but even if they did open their doors tomorrow, I certainly will not go back to them. Best of Luck Dennis!

I ordered Darkside lights on 2/2-They took the money from my cc, but the lights were supposedly on back order. And, they have not replied to my emails. Today is the 18th. I emailed Darkiside-they said Frozen was done-do not order anything from them. This owner is stealing alot of money right now, has a bad drinking problem, and dosen’t have the balls to even answer his phone. We want our stuff or a refund! I filed a claim with my cc co. today.

  • Sharon

Additionally, if they are running with a skeleton crew then why are all the phone numbers “no longer in service”???

  • Sharon

Skeleton crew or not, they are not answering emails nor providing any feedback on their website for orders that have been placed. Credit card was charged though… Communication is critical while he is “rebuilding”. We have been a long-time customer of theirs but this is more than frustrating not being updated.

  • John P. Myers

No worries. We still have http://www.Performance-PCs.com to provide us with our parts. At least for me, i generally receive my orders 1-2 days faster with them than with Frozen anyway.

    After
hearing from Mark earlier this week, we had high hopes that FrozenCPU
would recover from whatever hardship occurred. However, we have not
received any further indication that this is happening anytime in the
near future. This is definitely a hard hit to the community and the
industry. We have so much compassion for all affected. Although we have
the utmost respect for FrozenCPU, we also are concerned for our
customers and resellers that have been derailed by this situation and are desperately looking for our products.

In response to this, we have decided to re-open our online shop for end
users, and will again start accepting new reseller applications
shortly. We will be working day and night to get the website functional
as soon as possible. Your patience during this time is much appreciated.

The loss of Frozen CPU is the end of the Era and we will all
miss the great contributions that they made to the computer modification
    industry.

All of their numbers are disconnected. Mark posted a pic of him on facebook 6 months ago saying they forgot to take my cell phone. We all make bad decisions in life. He was in handcuffs!

  • Coach

That is a shame. I’ve ordered from them before. They have those hard to find case and cooling items you need. 🙁

  • Moose

Or this is a case of everyone leave the place after witnessing Mark trash the place in a rage. http://imgur.com/a/IgVvi This whole “Skeleton crew” thing seems to fit the bill, it’s probably only him trying clean the mess up and hire new people so he can start shipping stuff again

  • Jugurnot

Where is the latest info on this? OCN took the thread down.

  • Worth keeping in mind Brian (Primochill / Voyeurmods / etc ) gets a lot of business (money) from Frozen CPU and it is in their interests to preserve that relationship for as long as possible. He is just reposting what was posted at HardOCP.

Kyle is buddy buddy with Mark, has promoted Mark’s business in the past and is willing to lay down for him apparently. Wait another 72 hours and their merchant account will be deactivated from the massive amounts of chargebacks coming in.
