The streaming music market is pretty tough, but Rhapsody has grown its subscriber base by an impressive 45 percent over the last year. Rhapsody now has nearly 3.5 million global subscribers in 34 countries according to an announcement made by the company on Monday. Rhapsody keeps things simple in terms of subscription tiers, with an ad-free streaming Premier tier for $9.99 per month that allows you to download any song, album or playlist. Rhapsody unRadio debuted last summer and the Internet radio service runs $4.99 per month with no advertising and allows users to save up to 20 songs for offline playback. In the first 18 months, Rhapsody unRadio subscribers have listened to more than 25 million hours of music and streamed 875 million songs. Rhapsody hopes to continue growing their customer base and now supports Chromecast Audio and Chromecast TV, Tango, Shazam, and Sonoss.

Next year, Rhapsody will celebrate its 15th anniversary and weve never been more excited or optimistic about a category that we helped define in early 2001, said Ethan Rudin, chief financial officer, Rhapsody International, Inc. Despite increasing competition, we continue to believe in the value of music and see our role as vital in creating experiences with music that users around the world will pay for.
