Last month we told you that NVIDIA slashed prices on their mid-range desktop graphics cards just ahead of the launch. We expected NVIDIA to make price adjustments before the AMD Radeon R9 290X came out last week, but the executives decided not to make any pricing moves. The AMD Radeon R9 290X proved to be faster than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 in our benchmarks and cost $549, which was $100 less than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780.

780-290x

NVIDIA has slashed the price of the GeForce GTX 780 from $649 to $499 in order to be competitive with the Radeon R9 290X! This is a large $150 price cut and you seldom see such large pricing moves like this.  AMD will shorting be releasing the Radeon R9 290, which will basically be a Radeon R9 290X with some features disabled and lower clock speeds. AMD will be pricing this card below the $549 price tag on the Radeon R9 290X, so it looks like the GeForce GTX 780 3GB will be priced to compete more with the Radeon R9 290 4GB.

NVIDIA recently made it public that they will be coming out with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti next month, which will be faster than the GeForce GTX 780. Rumored specifications for the GTX 780 Ti were leaked right after the card was announced, but no one knew what the pricing would be. NVIDIA has set the price of the GeForce GTX 780 Ti at $699 and it will become available on November 7th. This card will become NVIDIA's flagship single-GPU desktop graphics card.
