Plextor Shows Off New SSD Lines at CES 2014

By

While in Las Vegas for CES, Plextor invited us up to their suite in the Bellagio to check out their newest products. Plextor was well known for their optical ROM drives years ago but has begun to refocus some of their R&D into a solid state drives. We were shown a total of five new products in their SSD line, including form factors of: M.2, mSATA, PCIe, and 2.5.

The drive that everyone will want to get their hands on is obviously the 2.5 form factor. There are two versions here, the M6 Pro and the M6S. The M6 Pro will be their high end drive for the power user, while the M6S is the drive for your average user who just wants their computer to go faster. The M6 Pro is capable of sequential read/writes of 540/460 MB/s, while you can find the M6S running read/writes of 520/440 MB/s.

M.2 is a hot new item this year at CES and you should expect to see this drive come in 128GB and 256GB sizes, with impressive sequential read/write speeds up to 520/410 MB/s respectively. Think about all of that storage and speed in such a tiny form factor.

Plextors speed demon will obviously be in the PCIe category, the M6e, which this drive will have sizes from 128GB to 512GB and will run circles around your conventional drive. The 512GB drive can see speeds up to 770 MB/s sequential read and 625 MB/s sequential write.

Finally, the mSATA drives, model M6M, will come in sizes from 64GB to 512GB with read/write speeds up to 520/440 MB/s.

There is no pricing on any of the drives, but Plextor does expect to have them available Spring 2014.
