NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Video Card Teased at $199

It looks like GeForce GTX 1060 3GB video card details have leaked out from a press event by NVIDIA in China! The leaked slides show that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB reference card not only has half memory as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, but it also has less CUDA cores. It appears that the GeForce GTX 1060 series cards use the GP106 Pascal GPU, but the fully enabled part with 10 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) is on the 6GB model and a version with one SM unit disabled is being used on the 3GB cards. This means the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB has 1280 CUDA cores while the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB has just 1152 CUDA cores. This also means that the Texture Units (TMUs) will be reduced from 80 to 72. In case you were wondering the memory on both GeForce GTX 1060 models runs on a 192-bit bus.

Both cards will have a 120 Watts TDP rating and feature boost clocks of ~1,700 MHz (we are hearing 1733MHz is the boost clock on the 3GB cards, but aren’t certain). We aren’t sure if the base clocks are the same as that information wasn’t shown in the chart, but we assume the base clock will be close 1506 MHz like the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB reference design. Video outputs remain the same on both cards, so you have three DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0b and 1x DVI-D port. Both NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 cards won’t be supporting SLI, but you do get NVIDIA ANSEL, DirectX 12 / Vulkan API Support and VR-Ready gaming performance.

GeForce GTX 1060 3GB coming for $199?

Word on the street is that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB card is going to be priced close to $199 and that it is designed to be price competitive with the AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB and the Radeon RX 470 4GB and 8GB cards. It will be interesting to see how the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB models perform against AMD’s Polaris cards in the weeks ahead!

The GeForce GTX 1050 is still being rumored as coming out in October for $149, so if you were wanting a sub $150 graphics card you’ll have to wait a couple more months!
