Zelda game producer Eiji Aonuma showed a short clip during the Direct of what looks like Zelda meets Skyrim.

Aonuma cited console power restrictions for the the limitations on Wind Waker’s open-world feel. Nintendo wants to bring back the old Zelda classic exploration that, until now, had only existed in previous games: approaching new territory from any open direction at any time the player desires. The producer specifically cited that players will be able to traverse the world and be able to explore the full open world of the new game.

During the Direct, several jokes were poked at the lack of new games in Nintendo’s long running IP’s. One such joke involved Star Fox but was quickly dismissed. Immediately after the end of the Direct, however, the stream showed Shigeru Miyamoto playing a game that seemed to heavily involve the second screen on the gamepad. Under the guise of discussing new possibilities of gamepad use under developement, Nintendo teased at a new Star Fox game.

Although the screen was intentionally blurred during the video, at several points, the series trademark ship (the Arwing) can be made out amongst the footage. According to Kotaku, Miyamoto had demonstrated the new game concept to a small group at Nintendo’s booth on the E3 floor.

The gamepad will serve as a mechanism to allow players to aim and target without affecting the trajectory of the ship. This problem has always been around in most games involving flight, leading players to purchase joysticks and other peripherals. Apparently, this is only one of three experimental games that Nintendo is working on to really accentuate what the gamepad can offer to players.
