Neil Young Announces Pono Music Player – Higher Audio Quality
Neil Young is launching a new high-end music service to combat the supposed poor sound quality of iTunes and other digital music services. Young showed off a prototype Pono device on the Late Show with David Letterman. Pono is Hawaiian for “Righteous” and that Sony and Warner are on board. Many of the specifics are still unclear, but from what we understand, Pono will use digital-to-analog conversion technology to make songs sound like they did during their original studio recording sessions. Pono is supposed to be an answer to compressed audio formats, such as MP3 and AAC, but its also more than just another lossless format such as FLAC. Questions also remain about how the service itself would work and what the costs for everything would be. How many people really care about having better audio quality?
