Since 1995, Microsoft has shipped Internet Explorer as the web browser of choice packaged with their Windows Operating system. There are now reports that Microsoft will retire Internet Explorer for a new browser with the upcoming Windows 10 release, code named Spartan. The Spartan operating system is Microsofts effort to re-build an OS from the ground up. The new OS would still use Microsofts web engine, but would make it more nimble and light-weight and take the best features from its competitors, Chrome and Firefox.

Even though Microsoft hasnt officially announced anything, word on the street (and on the internet) is claiming that the Internet Explorer (IE) name will be dropped to get away from any negative connotations from their older browser as Microsoft tries to attract as many new users for their desktop and mobile platforms. More information should be available after the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show and the huge Windows 10 even held on January 21, 2015.
