Microsoft Increases Pressure on Korea Over Suit

By

Microsoft, the world?s biggest software maker, has renewed its threat to pull the Windows operating system out of Korea, if the ongoing investigation by the nation?s antitrust agency doesn?t turn out to be in its favor. Seems abit silly for Microsoft to threaten an entire country like this. I’d go open source in a second I was in Korea’s shoes.

In its quarterly report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Microsoft said the FTC might require the company to remove code or redesign Windows uniquely for the Korean market. “(If that happened) it might be necessary to withdraw Windows from the Korean market or delay offering new versions in Korea,” the company said in the filing. The departure of Microsoft would wreak havoc on Korea since Windows has near-complete dominance here. Windows now accounts for more than 99 percent of the operating system market for personal computers.
