Microsoft Edge Will Be Replacing Internet Explorer

Microsoft Edge is the official name for the web browser in Windows 10! Internet Explorer has been around since 1995, but after 19 years it looks like IE will be put out to pasture. Microsoft Edge made its debut in Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10049 under the code-name Project Spartan in March 2015. Yesterday, during the Build Conference keynote presentation, Microsoft made the announcement that “Spartan” would officially be known as Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft Edge will serve as the default browser on both the PC and mobile device editions of Windows 10. It features a new layout engine also known as EdgeHTML, which is forked from Trident that is “designed for interoperability with the modern web”. One of the neatest and most shown new features of Microsoft Edge is the ability to write directly on webpages and then being able share your mark-ups with others. You also have the Cortana voice assistant, new-tab page integration and a new reading mode that allows you to view the main text content of a website without having to look at ads and whatnot. We are all for being able to read articles free of distraction, but ads are what keep sites like Legit Reviews funded to be around for over 13 years for free to those that want to read it!

Microsoft won’t be killing off Internet Explorer right away and it will continue to be available in Windows 10 for a short period time. After an unknown period of time it will be eventually pulled after Microsoft feels that companies have had enough time to make the switch. That should be just enough time to infuriate web developers as that means they still have to ensure their designs support IE and Microsoft Edge. I guess we all need to get used to using the abbreviation ME!
