LG V10 Smartphone Is A Huge Data Consuming Device – 4K Recording Eats Up To 500MB Per Minute!

By

The LG V10 Smartphone is the first device in the new high-end ‘V’ series for the Korean smartphone maker. The new phone has some insane features as it has an impressive spec sheet when it comes to hardware and has some new features like dual-displays as well as a dual-selfie camera. The main display is a 5.7-inch Quad-HD Quantum Display at 2560×1440 and the secondary is a 2.1-inch IPS at 160×1040 resolution, so the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Processor will be hard at work pushing all the pixels on the two 513ppi displays. Other notable hardware features include 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal memory with expansion thanks to an available Micro SDXC card slot, a 3,000 mAh battery. Google’s Android 5.1.1 ‘Lollipop’ operating system will be running on the LG V10 out of the box.

When it comes to cameras the LG V10 has two front-facing 5-megapixel cameras and a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture lens. The 4K video that is captured by the rear-facing camera is impressive! Take a look at this unreal lawn mower slip-n-slide video that was filmed on the LG V10 in native 3840×2160 24P (24 Frames Per Second) below. In order to record 4K video the LG V10’s 64GB of internal storage is handled by the Sandisk 64GB iNAND 7232 storage solution. The SanDisk 64GB iNAND 7232 storage solution is capable of sequential write speeds of up to 150MB/s (1.2 gigabit (Gb)2 per second) and those speeds are almost unheard of for smartphone! Sandisk says that the iNAND 7232 storage solution is optimized to improve 4K Ultra HD video playback and frames-per-second (FPS) speeds during the display of images.

The video clip is impressive, but we learned today that the LG V10 smartphone is being dubbed the Storage Killer since it is a ‘huge data consuming device.’ The slide below was shown by the LG product development team at the Sandisk Future Proof Storage conference in Shenzhen, China and shows that 4K video recording on the LG V10 will use up to 500MB of storage space for every minute of 4K video recorded! The slide from the presentation also showed that a DSD (Direct Stream Digital) music file can be up to 380MB per song, which is shocking.

LG V10 The Storage Killer

No wonder LG is offering a free 200GB memory card, a spare LG 3,000 mAh battery and charging cradle for the battery! You’ll need that 200GB micro SDXC card if you plan on recording a bunch of 4K video content! The bundle is valued at up to $300 and it appears to be a great promotion. The 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card (SDSDQUAN-200G-G4A) alone has an MSRP of $249.99 and is on Amazon right now for $174.99 shipped.
