Levi’s Commuter Trucker Jacket features Jacquard tech to interface with smartphones

Levi’s, the company famous for jeans, and Google have teamed up to create a new type of smart jacket. The jacket is called the Levi’s Commuter Trucker Jacket and it uses Google Jacquard technology inside. That tech gives the jacket a smart sleeve that has tech embedded that allows you to unlock and answer an incoming phone call, read a text or skip to the next track in your playlist without having to pull your phone out of a pocket.

The jacket is set to go on sale Wednesday and this is the first product out there that uses the Google Jacquard platform to integrate connectivity into the clothing. The jacket is washable once the snap tag is removed, which holds all the electronics needed for functionality. Controls will have users swiping or tapping the jacket sleeve.

The gesture sensing Jacquard Threads are woven into the cuff of the jacket and wirelessly connect to the smartphone using electronics inside the sleeve and the Snap Tag. That tag also alerts the wearer to incoming phone calls with light and haptic feedback. Jacquard allows the wearer to assign gestures that invoke different digital abilities.

Exact pricing on the jacket isn’t announced but we don’t expect it to be cheap. It will land in select retail stores this Wednesday. It will be available for purchase on the Levis.com website and in select Levi’s stores next week.
