Leak: Windows 9 Coming Next Year?

The image below is allegedly from a leaked document from ‘FaiKee’ a Chinese source via Myce, and it details Microsoft’s non-public roadmap concerning the Windows 9 desktop and server operating system, a matching update for Windows Phone, and a few new Microsoft Office releases.

Windows 9 Leak

Unfortunately there’s really no great detail on what Windows 9 could hold in store, other then a possible Summer 2015 preview release. Somewhat more interesting is what’s directly below that, Windows 365. While some speculate that Windows 365 is going to be a subscription based iteration of the operating system, it seems more likely that it would be a more mobile version that could challenge the growth of Chrome OS. With a light cloud-based operating system, running on a Windows base, end users could get all the speed and cloud convenience of a Chromebook, without having to necessarily sacrifice local Windows applications. In being able to offer all the functionality of OneDrive, Outlook, and the Office Webapps, Microsoft could finally have an answer to the super-budget laptop.

Also on the list is Office 2013 Gemini, listed here as a “Windows UI App”. Gemini is suspected to be the touch optimized version of the productivity suite that also has alleged leaked images of its own. The following image was reported to have been accidentally published on Microsoft’s own website.

Sleeker and likely to offer newer features than the iOS port(as is Microsoft tradition when porting to a non-Windows environment), a touch-optimized Office 2013 looks to be nearing it’s debut as a Modern UI app.
