Intel Optane Demo Shows 2GB/s File Transfers At IDF Shenzhen

By

This week at IDF Shenzhen, Rob Crooke, Intel vice president for the Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group (NSG), joined Ian Yang, president of Intel China, on stage to talk about Intels advances in storage memory, including 3D NAND and Intel Optane technology using 3D XPoint non-volatile memory media. Intel has uploaded more than an hour of content from the show that can be watched below. The Intel Optane demonstration begins at the 47:45 mark and ends around 55:30.

During the keynote, Rob showed a new demonstration of the speed that future Intel Optane SSDs can deliver while transferring files moving a 25 GB video file in 15 seconds. The test was done on a pair of identical systems other than one running an SSD with traditional NAND Flash memory and the other running 3D XPoint in a prototype Intel Optane series drive. Normally it takes about 1 minute to move the file, but thanks to 3D Xpoint it takes just 15 seconds at nearly 2.00 GB/s!

This performance was on an early prototype drive, so it could possibly get even faster! Intel believes that 3D XPoint will bring dramatic reductions in loading times and file transfer times!
