Intel Desktop and Server Processor Price Cut Roadmap

Intel just recently cut prices on processors of every make on July 22 and July 29. The price drop on the Intel Quad-Core Xeon E5335 processor was 52%, so Intel has really been slashing prices trying to get lure in customers during the back to school shopping rush.

Effective as of last week (on July 22, 2007 and July 29, 2007), Intel has officially reduced the pricing on select retail boxed processors sold through authorized distributors. Just to clearly show the percentage decline of Intel’s published 1000-unit processor price, the percent decline has been listed below for each processor.

As you can see Intel took double digit price cuts on a number of processors and since Intel already has a performance lead over AMD’s current processor series, the price cut is really icing on the cake for consumers. With AMD and Intel slashing prices all the time many consumers have been holding off on purchasing processors as they know that price cuts come often and offer significant savings. Just this week Intel updated distributors on future price cuts and it seems that the next round of Intel price cuts is coming on August 26, 2007, but don’t get too excited. The Core 2 Duo series and Xeon processors don’t appear to have any further price cut coming for some time.

In order to better facilitate the buying of processors Intel has provided us with the pricing road map below. An X indicates the products that are affected by each price move. Specific percentage decline will continue to be published closer to the price move date. In addition, there may be price moves on products that are not included in this list in order to respond to changing market dynamics. This information is subject to change without notice as Intel doesn’t know what key competitor AMD is up do all the time.

Intel has price cuts already planned in Q1 2008 marked on the calendar, so hopefully this will help some of our readers figure out when the best time to buy is. The popular Core 2 Duo series doesn’t have any scheduled price cuts coming out in the weeks ahead, so if you’ve been waiting on the prices to drop more don’t hold your breath!
