Google Street View Car Hits Donkey in Botswana

By

Have you heard about how a Google Street View vehicle in Kweneng, Botswana hit and possibly kill a donkey walking along a rural dirt road? The scene is still visible on Google Street View: The Google vehicle appears to come up upon a standing donkey before knocking it over. After looking at the images ourselves it looks like the donkey laid down in the road to give itself a dust bath, a grooming behavior in many animals in which they roll around on the ground in sand or dirt. It looks like the poor donkey just had an itch, but it is amusing that so many people got upset with Google over the purported incident! If you look at the images keep in mind that you drive on the left hand side of the road in Botswana! Anyone else wonder why Google is in Botswana doing Street View when they haven’t finished much of rural America?

Google Street View Donkey Killing

“Our Street View teams take the safety of people and donkeys very seriously,” Google said in a statement. “A review of our imagery confirms that we did not cause any harm to the donkey.”
