Far Cry 5 Gets Official!

By

I spent countless hours playing the original Far Cry years ago and loved the game. I didn’t spend all that much time with the followups to that original though. If you are a fan of the franchise, Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 5 is in the works. The game was announced right before the Ubisoft earrings cool recently and it will come out during the current fiscal year for the game developer reports GameStop.

That means we will see Far Cry 5 sometime before March 31, 2018 if all goes well. That’s really all we know about the game at this point. Ubisoft has offered no information on the setting, time, or period in history that the game will be set. Ubi does promise that we will know more about the game “very soon” so many are expecting lots of details at E3 coming up next month.

I think an E3 update would make a lot of sense. Ubi has declined to confirm or deny that the game might be a western as has been put forth in some rumors. The last Far Cry game was Far Cry: Primal set in prehistoric era. Back in September of 2016, Ubi confirmed it was developing another Far Cry game but stated then that the game wasn’t necessarily planned for a 2017 launch.

“We believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release,” explained editorial VP Tommy Francois. “We’re trying to achieve that. That’s super f***ing blunt, I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say this. This is the goal we’re going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish. So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin’s game or a Far Cry [in 2017], f*** it.”
