CES 2016 – EVGA Shows New Gaming Case and Gaming Laptop

As always, EVGA is presenting their newest hardware at CES 2016, along with several new upcoming products. This year, EVGA has plans to release a currently unnamed Gaming Case, Gaming Laptop, 980Ti VR-ready graphics card and a new lower cost Z170 Classified motherboard.

Their new gaming case has an estimated release date of third quarter 2016, the model shown at CES 2016 was a functional prototype, however some of the elements are going to change. While the majority of the Gaming Case was plastic, EVGA indicated there would be several versions of the case, in which one of them would most likely have more metal elements. As for pricing, with the multiple versions of the case being made available, they expected that the final price would start under $100 for the base version and increase from there depending on the specific model, perhaps up to $200 for the highest model.

So, what all does their new Gaming Case do? First, it’s a full tower, that will support up to eight fans that is controlled by the included fan controller. This fan controller is connected to the bottom side panel which displays the fan speed in terms of a percentage; of course you can increase/decrease the fan speeds as needed. The dual color fan speed will be Green for the intake fans, and Red for the exhaust fans. However, if water cooling is preferred, you can fit up to a 3 x 120mm radiator in both the front and top. For the back, you can at least go with 140mm radiator, perhaps a 2 x 140mm if that support bar is removed. For those that still use 5.25″ devices, there is no 5.25″ drive bay on this case.

Last year, we heard rumors that EVGA was preparing to enter the enthusiast gaming laptop market, but not much information was provided. This year, they are ready to make a huge splash with their SC17 Gaming Laptop. From the ground up, EVGA designed it to be fully overclockable, integrating the latest Intel Skylake Core i7 6820HK Unlocked CPU. Using Skylake, expect that you can put up to 64GB of memory into the system, two M.2 slots will allow you to run those fast drives in RAID 0 configuration, and you will still have another drive for mass storage.

Being a gaming laptop, it’s all about the panel and integrated graphics. For the panel, there are going to be two models, one with NVIDIA G-Sync (SC17G), and one without (SC17). Each of these panels will be 17.3″ and capable of 4K resolutions! Internally, you’ll find the NVIDIA GTX980M that includes overclocking capabilities. External ports you’ll find a pair of USB 3.1, including a Type-C on the sides, ethernet, HDMI 1.4, and mini-DisplayPort.

Portability means it’ll get bumped around, EVGA has gone with a Unibody Aluminum Alloy frame that is designed to protect the vital components. Finally, the battery, EVGA expects that it’ll provide up to four hours of battery life when gaming. Pricing wasn’t immediately available, however we should hear very soon as it has an expected release date in February 2016.
