Corsair Launches First Retail 3666MHz DDR4 Memory Kit

By

We just learned that Corsair has launched the first 3666 MHz DDR4 memory kit! The Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) 3666 MHz memory kit with CL18 timings in in stock and ready for purchase over at Newegg if you happen to have $1049.99 sitting around. The model number is CMD16GX4M4B3666C18. The timings on this 16GB kit at 3666 MHz are 18-19-19-39 with a voltage of 1.35V.

The images of the kit up on Newegg show that these modules feature the color bar that matches the Gigabyte X99-SOC Champion motherboard color theme, so it’s likely designed to go with that board. The kit has Intel XMP 2.0 support and should work on Intel X99 and Intel Z170-based motherboards. From what we gather the Intel Z170 platform with it’s dual-channel DDR4 support and Intel Skylake processors will be an excellent memory overclocking platform with motherboard manufactures supporting 3400MHz and 3466MHz right out of the gate and that we’ll be seeing 3666MHz and 3800MHz possible by those that really want to push it. From our understanding new Samsung 4Gb ICs are being used on these new wicked fast memory kits. DDR4 memory quickly hit 3333MHz in the fall of 2014, but hit a wall until these new Samsung ICs have come out with the ability to run at 3666MHz to 3800MHz!
