Calgary, AB. October 29, 2015 CoolIT Systems, the world leader in Direct Contact Liquid Cooling (DCLC) technologies for data center, server and desktop, today announced it has received an order to deliver a second deployment of its Rack DCLC data center liquid cooling solution to the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) in partnership with Huawei and Itprojekt. Building on the success of their existing liquid cooled deployment with CoolIT, PSNC has purchased an additional 17 racks of liquid cooled Huawei servers for a project total of 20 racks. A new feature of this expanded deployment will see the server energy captured in the liquid being re-used for heating buildings on campus, making this installation one of the most efficient HPC clusters in EMEA.

The PSNC cluster expansion combines Huawei blade servers in the E9000 chassis with CoolIT Systems Rack DCLC liquid cooling system to manage over 80% of the server heat. The system will be powered by two Rack DCLC CHx650 centralized pumping/heat exchange units to provide liquid cooling to the processor, RAM and VRM components. Using inlet water temperatures of 40C and above allows CoolITs system to access free air cooling during warm weather periods when supplying heat for buildings is not required. All 1160 compute nodes will be hot-swappable using all metal, dry-break quick connects.

Last summer we had a long period of 40C weather and our AC cooling system went nuts. It was very difficult to keep the air-cooled racks running under those conditions, said Radoslaw Januszewski, IT Specialist at PSNC. The liquid cooled racks were the only ones that continued to operate effectively, so it proves we made the right decision to go with CoolIT Systems and their reliable technology.

Located at the Institute of Bio-organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, PSNC is a premier center for HPC in Poland and is the national leader in implementing innovative technologies for the national scientific network.

The new liquid cooled PSNC cluster will be installed in December 2015.
