In 1962 when race car drivers Jim Hall and Hap Sharp founded Chaparral Cars, not many could have guessed their impact on the racing and consumer auto markets. Chaparral Cars were known for their pioneering applications of aerodynamics that are now common in performance automobiles. Not only did Chaparral Cars help to advance the science of production cars, their partnership with Chevrolet Research and Development helped the team win on the track against larger and more popular sports car companies around the world.

In this spirit of innovation and technological advancement were the engineers at Chevrolet inspired to design and create the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) Concept Race Car. The Chaparral VGT was developed for the Vision Gran Turismo project, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of PlayStation racing game Gran Turismo by inviting automobile manufacturers to give enthusiasts a peek into the future of automotive design.
