Battlefield 1 Boasts 21 Million Players

The WWI shooter Battlefield 1 has been a smash hit for EA and DICE. EA announced that the game now has 21 million players as of the end of June. Only a few months back the game had 19 million players meaning the game is still growing robustly. That growth shows no signs of stopping either as a new expansion pack is due out in September.

That new expansion pack is called “In The Name of the Tsar.” EA has promised that even after the expansion launches in September, the game will “continue to evolve as a content-rich live service.” EA talked about the game at Gamescom with CEO Andrew Wilson stating, “At Gamescom, we will detail our plans for a new offering that will bring the richest Battlefield 1 experience yet–including the all-out warfare, epic multiplayer battles and War Stories campaign that have defined the game, plus new maps, deeper progression, and additional fan-favorite game modes, all in a single package.”

We talked about the multiplayer aspects of the game in June. Some of the multiplayer hallmarks include dynamic weather, intuitive destruction, operations, and Behemoths. The latter being massive player-controlled vehicles ever available in a Battlefield game. Those include The Armored Train, Air ships, and the Battleship.

The game also boasts a cool dynamic battle system that aims to ensure that no battle is ever the same. That sort of feature goes a long way to helping players stay excited about the game as it ages. The good news about 21 million players for fans of BF1 is that there will always be a server ready for play with people to fight against and as long as the game is this popular, you can bet a steady stream of new content is in the works.
