Battleborn Open Beta Live for PS4 This Weekend, All Other Platforms Start Wednesday April 13

Gearbox Software and 2K Games, together known for the Borderlands series, is set to begin the free open beta process for their upcoming first-person hero shooter Battleborn. PlayStation 4 players will have first access to the open beta today April 8 starting at 10am PST (5pm UTC.) The open beta for PC and Xbox One will start April 13 at 10am PST (5pm UTC.) This open beta period will end April 18 at 7am PST (2pm UTC) for all platforms worldwide.

battleborn_open_beta_02Those interested can already begin pre-downloading the game now through Steam, the PlayStation Network, and the Microsoft Store. No signup, key, or code is necessary. Officially, the download size is expected to be approximately 12 GB for PC, though our pre-download is currently showing 6.7 GB. The approximate download sizes for the Xbox One and PS4 are smaller respectively at 11 GB and 8.5 GB. It should be noted that Xbox Live Silver members will not have access to the public matchmaking game modes.battleborn_open_beta_01

Battleborn is a novel take on the shooter game formula with gameplay elements inspired by MOBA games such as DotA and League of Legends. Each player controls a hero character with a unique weapon loadout and abilities while working with teammates to complete an objective. Two episodes from the solo and co-op story mode as well as two competitive multiplayer game modes are available to play during the Battleborn open beta.

“The Content:

During the Open Beta, youll be able to experience the natural progression of Battleborn; including two Story Mode episodes, two Competitive Multiplayer Modes, 25 heroes (some instantly available, some will unlock as you progress), and as you play, youll rank up on three different progression systems.

STORY MODE: Go in solo or co-op with up to 5 players in two full Story Mode episodes: The Algorithm and Voids Edge.

  • The Algorithm: Take on The Algorithm mission to debug and unlock the rogue Magnus AI, ISIC. If you played in the Closed Technical Test last year, youll notice Geoff, the Spider King, has made a few changes to his lair.
  • Voids Edge: Bring a jacket, cause the ice-planet, Bliss, is mighty cold. A Varelsi portal has opened and its up to you to fight your way through the invasion and deliver the payload.

COMPETITIVE MULTIPLAYER MODES: Challenge other players to duke it out in two Competitive Multiplayer modes: Incursion and Meltdown.

  • Incursion: (Overgrowth map) Destroy the enemys two Spider Sentry Drones before they get to yours.
  • Meltdown: (Paradise map) Send waves of minions to their death and score points for every minion who throws themselves into the incinerator. The team with the most scrap metal wins!

PARTY UP WITH FELLOW BADASSES: Conscript your friends for a truly badass Open Beta experience!

  • Party up with friends or search for random players to join them in Co-Op Story Mode episodes.
  • Play Split-Screen on PS4 and Xbox One in either Story Mode or Competitive Multiplayer Modes.
  • Communicate with your teammates through in-game Voice Chat.
  • Practice makes badass create private custom matches with friends to get a handle on controls and practice with new characters as you unlock them.”
