ATI X1800 CrossFire Video Card Review

Tests were performed using the default ?demo1?. Options were set to High Quality. Scores represented as average frames per second.

At 1280×1024 we see that we are running up against CPU limitations with the Crossfire and SLI systems. Even at 1600×1200 we see the CPU holding our systems back a bit. 7800GT SLI holds a slight performance advantage over X1800XL.

Once AA and AF are turned up we no longer see the CPU as a bottleneck. Remember that when actually playing Doom 3 that the game is capped at 60fps. With this in mind you can see that X1800XT in Crossfire would be very playable at 8xAA/16x High Quality AF. Also notice how the 7800GT SLI is now slightly behind X1800XL Crossfire. Since this is Doom 3 where NVIDIA ususally dominates could this be a trend?
