ASUS ROG Avalon PC Shows Cable-Free Future & ROG Highlight Video From Computex 2016

By

ASUS has uploaded a video that features the highlights of their new products revealed at the ASUS ROG Computex Press Event 2016. ASUS unveiled the ROG G31 Edition 10 Gaming PC and the GX800 Gaming laptop with the latest GeForce GTX GPU’s running in SLI and even showed off the ROG Avalon gaming PC prototype. The video is only eight minutes long and can be watched below.

The ASUS ROG Avalon prototype PC caught our attention as it shows that the engineers in the skunk work labs over at ASUS are trying to ditch the wires that are inside a traditional desktop PC with a wire-free modular design. Going modular is nothing new, but there aren’t too many proof of concepts out there for the desktop PC market.

Jonathan Chu of the ASUS ROG team came up with the idea for a modular PC based off the mini-ITX board format and used edge connectors and modular components to make it happen. The gallery below shows some of the ROG Avalon PC build images and the interchangeable rear I/O modules are a pretty neat idea as a single board could work for multiple uses thanks to being able to have what you need.

While ASUS tried to eliminate all the cables that they could they noted that video cards would need to be redesigned with edge connectors, but ASUS could easily rework a video cards power connectors.
