Asetek Awarded $600,000 From Cooler Master USA

By

Asetek announced that they have received a payment of approximately $600,000 USD from Cooler Master USA (CMI USA, Inc) to settle a patent infringement lawsuit that has been going on for over three years. Back in 2014 a jury found that, since 2012, CMI has been infringing Aseteks U.S. Patent No. 8,240,362. The jury awarded Asetek damages of $404,941 (a royalty of 14.5%) based on CMIs infringing sales since 2012. Asetek then sued again in late 2015 for more money when CMI was still selling water coolers and asked for enhanced damages i.e., a 25.375% royalty rate, on CMIs revenues for sales of infringing products beginning January 1, 2015.After years of interest and court battles it appears that Asetek is walking away with roughly $600,000 for the patent infringement.

This award signifies another successful defense of Aseteks intellectual property, said Andr Sloth Eriksen, founder and CEO of Asetek. As part of efforts to build and maintain market share, we closely review and assess all competitive offerings for infringement of our patents. We are pleased with our success in defending them.
