Another AMD Radeon R9 390X Video Card Image Leaks

By

A new image of the AMD Radeon R9 390X video card has surfaced over on a hardware websites forum that shows the backplate of the card as well as the power connectors that are along the top edge. It’s tough to make out at first glance, but there appears to be two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. We have no clue if this is an early development sample or a final production card, but this could be a sign that the AMD Radeon R9 390X is a power hungry beast that could be pulling up to 375 Watts of power with this design. GPU makers always leave some headroom in the VRM design for overclocking, so it is likely this card only uses around 300W of power. The AMD Radeon R9 290X hhas a 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe connector with a typical board power rating of around 250 Watts. It doesn’t come as much of a shock that the AMD Radeon R9 390X with the Fiji GPU and HBM memory could possibly be using more power.
