Analyst Predicts iPhone 8 to Ditch Touch ID

Will it or won’t it have Touch ID fingerprint scanner? Early on iPhone rumors suggested that the alleged iPhone 8 would have a Touch ID fingerprint scanner under the glass of the screen. Not to much after that rumors started to surface that Apple would be ditching the Touch ID sensor because it couldn’t get the sensor to function under the glass.

Then rumors came back around again claiming that no, the iPhone 8 would actually get a Touch ID, and it would be under the glass. Now analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst for KGI Securities with a good track record of getting things Apple correct, has issued a note that says the iPhone 8 will launch without the fingerprint scanner reports MacRumors. In fact he says that Touch ID will be removed completely from the smartphone, meaning no oft rumored rear fingerprint scanner either.

Kuo goes on to predict that the iPhone 8 will have an industry leading edge-to-edge design and will come in limited color options. Kuo says that the iPhone 8 will boast the highest screen to body ratio of any smartphone available globally. There will be a notch at the top of the screen where various sensors and the speaker live that will be the largest bezel of the device.

Touch ID will be replaced with a 3D face sensing feature for logging in. The analyst also predicts 3GB of RAM for the devices with 64GB or 256GB storage options. An embedded USB-C power delivery IC is predicted along with the Lightning port.
