AMD Radeon R9 290X Specs and Pricing Leaked

AMD is having a tough time keeping things a secret these days.  Last week btarunr over at TechPowerUp dug into the page source of the Newegg retail page of the upcoming Radeon R9 290X Battlefied 4 Edition card and discovered that it was set to be $729.99 plus shipping. This week it appears that Japanese retailer Hermitage Akihabara leaked the specifications of both the upcoming Radeon R9 290X, and the lower cost AMD Radeon R9 290.

AMD Radeon R9 290X SpecsAccording to the leaked slide, the R9 290X with the new Hawaii GPU will have 2,816 stream processors, an  engine clock of up to 1000 MHz, 5.6 TFLOP/s of compute power, and 4 GB of GDDR5 memory running 5.0 GHZ on a 512-bit wide memory bus. The AMD Radeon R9 290 will feature fewer stream processors, lower clock speeds and a smaller price tag. The leaked image shows that the R9 290 will have 2,560 stream processors, a core clock of up to 948 MHz, 4.9 TFLOP/s of compute performance, and the same exact memory solution as the higher-cost AMD Radeon R9 290X video card. Any idea how much cheaper the R9 290 will be than the R9 290X?

The rumors months ago were $599 and $499, but I’d assume it would be in the $100-$150 less price range. The leaked $729 price tag on the 290X includes the Battlefield 4 premium bundle, which adds at least $60 to the price tag if not more. Time will tell though!

The rumors for the 290x were $599

I had been planning to buy AMD’s top tier card at $599 but that amount of money was already pushing the envelope. Now that the prevailing theorist place it closer to $699/$729 there is no way I would spend that. I’m hoping it will be cheaper.

gareed. I was going to sell my 2xgtx770 and get the r9-290x but not for $700

Sounds like the 290X is $649 and the 290 is $499 so I will probably buy the 290
