AMD OverDrive Replaced by AMD WattMan Technology

The AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card is getting ready to launch and just like all video card launches a handful of sits are leaking out information about the new features to get a boost in traffic. The latest leak is from Overclock3D and they have leaked the slides pertaining to AMD’s upcoming WattMan app that will be replacing AMD OverDrive. WattMan is short for Watt Manager and gives AMD Radeon video card owners more control of the overclocking with improved control over per state overclocking, voltage and temperature.

VideoCardz had already leaked an image of interface for WattMan last week, but didn’t know what exactly it was called at the time. Since all the slides have leaked a number of people have finally put all the information and figured it out. The slide about shows the clock speeds for the Radeon RX 480 in 8 different clock states!

The information about WattMan almost stayed a secret for the June 29th launch of the Radeon RX 480, but it appears Sapphire is to blame for leaking out information again.

The information about WattMan almost stayed a secret for the June 29th launch of the Radeon RX 480, but it appears Sapphire is to blame for leaking out information again. Maybe they just give out information to the wrong folks or maybe they are upset with AMD over things unknown to us. The information from Overclock3Dnotes that AMD promises 1st day driver support with up-to the minute game optimizations for performance enhancements and stability improvements.

We can’t wait to show you how AMD’s Radeon RX 480 8GB video card performs on June 29th when our review goes live. Hopefully we’ll have something you can read that you don’t already know about. The secrets for the AMD Radeon RX 480 have almost all spilled out. Guess we should start talking about the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with the upcoming GP106 Pascal GPU. NVIDIA will be launching that card very soon and is expected to be a solid card that is VR ready as well. The rumor mill has been quiet on that card, but why? The GeForce GTX 1060 will be the direct competitor for the Radeon RX 480 8GB ($229) and the Radeon RX 480 4GB ($199) and is expected to be around $249-$300 in price. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 is also said to be coming in 4GB and 6GB variants, so a $249 card might not be out of the question.

The AMD Radeon RX 480 is coming this week and AMD is trying to get a Radeon Rebellion going, but has anyone else noticed how quiet NVIDIA has been? NVIDIA’s marketing machine is one of the best in the industry and they are up to something!
