YouTube Pulled from Amazon Echo Show

Back in May, Amazon rolled out a new member of the Echo family with a device called the Echo Show. This was the first Echo device to sport a 7-inch touchscreen on the front allowing the user to watch video content directly on the Alexa-powered speaker. Amazon and Google have been negotiating on the use of YouTube on the Show and things have come to a head.

Google has now pulled YouTube from the Echo Show completely leaving Show users no way to watch YouTube videos on the device. Google says that the way Amazon implemented YouTube on the Echo show is a violation of its terms of service. According to Google it has been trying to negotiate with Amazon to no avail.

Amazon for its part states that Google removed YouTube from the Echo show “without explanation and without notification to customers.” Amazon says that there is no technical reason for the decision. Google says that it hopes to reach an agreement with Amazon and resolve the YouTube issues soon.

While we don’t know exactly what the tiff between Google and Amazon is, it’s likely over functions desktop users take for granted that Amazon failed to implement says CNET. That includes features like sharing of videos, recommending videos, and commenting functions.
