Company of Heroes

Company of Heroes (CoH) is a real-time strategy (RTS) computer game developed by Relic Entertainment that was released on September 14, 2006. On May 29, 2007 Relic released a patch for Company of Heroes that supports DirectX 10 and we used the latest patch to test DirectX 10 game performance. Company of Heroes is set during World War II where the player follows a military unit, known as Able Company, as they fight their way through some of the greatest and bloodiest battles, including the D-Day landings at Normandy.

Company of Heroes Benchmark Results

Benchmark Results: With the latest patch (1.71) installed and vsync disabled, the performance numbers showed solid results on all of these graphics cards as the frame rate was over 60FPS on all of the graphics cards. The XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB was 15% faster than the XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB, but the XFX GeForce 8800 GT 256MB stole the show thanks to its higher clock frequency. It’s obvious that at this resolution and game settings that 256MB of video card memory is plenty. Company of Heroes was recently re-benchmarked with vsync disabled on the graphics cards seen in the chart and all the NVIDIA cards used the same 169.06 drivers. Since 1600×1200 wasn’t tough enough to stress the cards we also tested them at 1920×1200 with 8x AA for the first time.

Company of Heroes Benchmark Results

Benchmark Results: With the resolution cranked up to 1920×1200 and 8x AA/CSAA enabled in-game, the performance headed south. The XFX GeForce 8800 GT 256MB XXX Edition graphics card took one of the largest performance hits as the video card memory came into play more. The XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB still looked great though and was 16% faster than the XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB.
