Xbox One Update Brings New Home Screen, Out Today for Xbox Insiders

By

Xbox One gamers out there have a new update for their consoles that is out today for some reports GameSpot. One of the most noticeable things that this update brings is a new Home screen for the console. Microsoft says that the revised Home screen “focus[es] on speed, customization, and expression.” The new Home screen has the aesthetic that you are used to seeing, but sports a totally new layout including a bar that allows you to jump directly back to what you were doing before.

The new home screen also has a pair of suggestions offered that includes things like recommending a new friend who plays games similar to what you like. The new home screen also has a section that recommends a deal that might be interesting to players. Home screen also links players directly to the My Games and Apps section and highlights content that you have played before.

The update also allows gamers to scroll down to other screens of their choosing, you can do things like save a game or a friend as a content block. A content block is described as a screen that has the ability to show different things such as an Activity Feed post from the game dev. Players can also opt to have nothing but the Home Screen if they prefer.

“The team is always pushing to make the Xbox experience faster and faster,” Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra explained. “In this release, we’ve eliminated the wait between Home, Social, and My Games and Apps by consolidating them into one dashboard experience. No more splash screens means you get to fun even faster.”

There are other things in the update including a revised Guide screen and Community tab. You do have to be an Xbox Insider to get the update now, it’s offered on the Alpha Ring now. The full update will roll out to all later this year, no specific date is offered. Microsoft does have a new Xbox One X console due out this holiday season, check out what Dave McCarthy has to say about it for more details.
