The combined share of clone (white-box) notebooks in the total worldwide notebook market continued to decline to 14.5% in the second quarter of this year from 15.7% in the first quarter, according data released recently by research firm Gartner Dataquest.

In terms of volume, the combined shipments from clone notebook players (referred to as the non-top-10 brand vendors) totaled 2.55 million units in the second quarter, as opposed to the 2.83 million units they shipped in the first quarter, the firm reported. However, Intel’s efforts to promote the clone notebook market, dubbed the “Mobile Alliance (MA)” in the Taiwan notebook industry, seemed to start making gains the Asia-Pacific market, according to sources at Taiwan notebook makers.
