Seeing DirectX 10 as one of core technologies of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Vista operating system (OS), GPU and chipset vendors are speeding up their developments to meet demand for new platforms, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

This month, Nvidia will launch its G80 GPU, and Intel is expected to start sampling chipsets supporting Direct X 10 in the first quarter of 2007, with volume production to follow in the third quarter, the paper said. SiS will skip 90nm technology to utilize an 80nm process to manufacture the SiS673 chipset, with volume production scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2007, and VIA is said to start sampling its KM960 chipset (with DirectX 9.0c support) in July, the paper added.
