TMDisplay combines technologies to reduce notebook panel thickness 50%

Wow is all I can say when I look at the new displays Toshiba/Matsushita have recently put into mass production. These displays are extremely thin, at 2.75mm at the thickest portion of the screen and 2.55mm at the thinnest portion. Of course, there is always that concern with portability and durability, but I’ll let you guys be the judge of that.

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology (TMDisplay) recently announced mass production of an 11.1-inch wide-format low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) TFT LCD panel using a new LED backlighting system for use in notebook PC applications. This approach results in a module with a thickness of just 2.75mm (at the thickest part), which is about one-half the thickness of existing notebook panel modules that use cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlighting.
