Overclocking

Overclocking the Corsair PC2-10000 was a very fun task as they overclock great at nearly any timing one can use. For this section we spent a great number of hours overclocking the modules at several different timings, so one can get a feel for the characteristics of these modules. For the first overclock we went for very tight timings of 3-3-3-8 2T with a TRC of 15 and a command rate of 2T. All of the overclocks were done at 2.4V with the Corsair AIRFLOW actively cooling the modules.

PC2-1000054 Memory Overclocked as C3 Timings

With CAS 3 timings we were able to get the modules up to 853MHz on the eVGA 680i SLI motherboard with 2.4V.

We then increased the timings from 3-3-3-8 to 4-4-4-12 and found that the kit really liked these timings. The Corsair DOMINATOR PC2-10000C5 kit is rated to do 1200MHz at CAS 5 timings, but check the CAS 4 testing results.

PC2-1000054 Memory Overclocked as C4 Timings

We were able to reach an impressive 1135MHz at 4-4-4-12 2T timings at just 2.4V! Remember that a number of motherboards, including this one, will go over 2.4V.

Let’s take a look at the CAS 5 results!

PC2-1000054 Memory Overclocked as C3 Timings

No big shocker here as the DOMINATOR PC2-10000C5 memory kit breaks the 1300MHz mark without flinching. It seems that the 680i SLI chipset gets wacky at anything above 1300MHz, so on motherboards without voltage modifications it’s rare to see modules get much higher than this.
