T-Mobile Adds 2GB to Allowed Data Use Before Slowing You Down

By

We all know the deal with the unlimited data plans that carriers like T-Mobile are offering today. They aren’t completely unlimited, at least not unlimited with high-speed data. The plans are all fitted with a leash in the form of a soft data cap that doesn’t turn off your mobile data, but significantly slows you down.

I think many would agree that having your data slowed to 3G or 2G speeds is almost the same thing as turning it off. T-Mobile is the carrier to thank for the new unlimited plans offered by major carriers as it was first to market with its unlimited plan that forced AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint to follow. T-Mobile also includes all fees and taxes in the cost of its plan.

T-Mobile has now made its unlimited plans more appealing to heavy users by upping that soft cap from 28GB of data to 30GB before it starts to throttle your speed. Once users hit that 30GB threshold, they will be deprioritized at peak use times. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon are offering unlimited plans as well and their soft data caps are much lower than T-Mobile.

AT&T and Verizon both have a 22GB soft cap while Sprint has 23GB. It’s worth noting that none of the carriers will throttle you constantly once you hit those numbers, but there is a chance of throttling. I hope T-Mobile keeps adding things to its mobile plans, it’s forcing the other carriers to make things better for mobile users.
