Square Enix Halts Mac Sales Of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

By

When Square Enix released the Mac version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on June 23rd it was fairly obvious that the game had performance issues and the launch did not go as planned. We just learned that Square Enix has removed the game from the market and is actually offering full refunds to those that would like one. It appears that Square Enix did not properly figure out the Mac System Requirements, so many people thought they had the proper hardware and didn’t due to internal communication issues. Square Enix will resume Mac sales once it has the full list of accurate system requirements ready to share, but there is no date given as to when that will happen by.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn producer and director Naoki Yoshida made a public post on the Final Fantasy 14 forums explaining the reason to pull the game title.

“Although our development and QA teams tested the client on Mac hardware, because of our last minute efforts to improve performance and the possibility that system requirements might change, we decided to prepare several versions of these requirements, with the one to be released depending on the final result. However, in the chaos leading up to the multi-platform launch of our expansion, we released incorrect requirements, which were not updated prior to the Mac version’s official release.”

Game owners that would like a refund should complete this form if they bought the title from the Square Enix Online Store or this form if they bought it from another retailer.
