Sprint Offers Some Customers Free iPhone 8 Deal

If you have been using smartphones for very long, you will remember back when carriers offered subsidies and you paid like $199 upfront and after a year of two the smartphone belonged to you and all you had to pay for was the monthly service. Today no one gets subsidies, you have to pay that money up front and then pay each month in many cases to pay for the phone over the two years, it seems better for carriers but not so much for customers, especially on expensive devices like the iPhone 8.

Spring has a new deal for the iPhone 8 that will see some users who can meet certain criteria getting an iPhone 8 for much less cash out of pocket than you might expect. Sprint’s iPhone 8 pre-order special has a big caveat, there are only certain specific phones that you can trade in. The deal requires you to trade in a working and in good condition iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, or Galaxy Note 8.

If you have one of those devices you can get a free 18-month lease of an iPhone 8. After that 18-months ends you can give the iPhone 8 back or pay the standard lease price of $29.17 for the basic iPhone 8 for six months and then the device is yours outright. That works out to an iPhone 8 for $180. That device is about $700 from Apple.

Another catch to the deal is that you do have to bring in a new line of service to Sprint at $50 monthly. Sprint isn’t exactly known for having the best network in all areas, so that could be seen as the biggest caveat of the deal. Existing customers aren’t eligible for the deal unless they have an iPhone 7 they can trade. Sprint is applying the deal retroactively so if you have already pre-ordered and have one of the devices mentioned above for trade, you get the new deal automatically reports BGR.
