Sony Rewards Program Pays Cash for PlayStation Trophies

If you are one of those PlayStation gamers that like to spend time grinding in your video games to earn all the trophies, Sony will now pay you a little bit of cash for those efforts. The Sony Rewards program will allow you to trade in PSN trophies for money applied to your PSN account. You can get real money for silver, gold, and platinum trophies.

The program will give you 100 points for 100 silver trophies, 250 points for 25 gold trophies, or 1,000 points for 10 platinum trophies. Every 1,000 points you trade in will net you $10 in the form of a PSN voucher. That certainly isnt much money compared the time it takes to win those platinum trophies.

Kotaku did a little math and notes that a PSN gamer with the name “Roughdaw4” is at the top of the trophy leaderboard packing 15,551 silver trophies, 6,903 gold trophies, and 1,359 platinum trophies. If that gamer traded in all the trophies earned they would be worth $1,583 in PSN money.

That money could be used to but up about 25 full priced games. Presumably, the trophies disappear after you trade them in, but that is unclear. The trophy exchange program is only offered in the US now.
