Skyrim Survival Mode Forces You to Fight the Elements

By

If you have played Skyrim Special Edition on the PC, Xbox One, or PS4 and thought to yourself that it just wasn’t hard enough, a new survival mode is coming reports Kotaku. In this mode instead of only fighting dragons and other characters, you also have to battle hunger and the weather. With the new survival mode, colder areas of the map will require players to keep warm or freeze to death.

Ways that players can keep warm include wearing armor with high warmth, standing near a fire, eating hot soup, or carrying a torch. The mode will mark the map in brown, blue, or white with the colors signifying warm regions, cool regions, and freezing regions. Most of the map is cool or freezing.

If you don’t eat enough you’ll also die while if you eat plenty you get a “well fed” bonus. Being cold reduces your overall life meter. Another wrinkle means if you find yourself too far away from a cooking pot and you eat raw food, you could get sick.

Survival mode also makes you contend with fatigue, fast travel is disabled, and the amount of stuff you can carry is significantly reduced. Shrines are now pay to use as well. The beta of survival mode is on PC now with PS4 and Xbox gamers getting it early next month.
